Peter GriffinLive Life Love ... 23 May - 16 June 2001In collaboration with the Ortega y Gasset Foundation, the painter Peter Griffin has now produced his third boxed set of prints, entitled "Meditations on Love". The suite consists of twelve prints, accompanied by excerpts from the writing of Jose Ortega y Gasset - the Spanish essayist and philosopher. Produced at Gresham Studios, it joins the two other boxed sets that Griffin has made there over the last five years. One was a collaboration with the Naruda Foundation ("Sealed with Fire"), the other with the contemporary Chilean playwright Ariel Dorfman ("Identities"). These will be shown alongside the Ortega series. As well as marking the launch of "Meditations on Love", the exhibition will also include monoprints, silkscreens, woodcuts and etchings. This is the first opportunity to see Griffin's print work in its entirety. A version of the exhibition will travel to Madrid and Buenos Aires. Another selection of Griffin's prints will be exhibited alongside other work by Gresham Studios in St Petersburg and Helsinki, later this year. Peter Griffin (b.1947 in Yorkshire, England) studied at the Royal College of art, then won the Prix de Rome scholarship which allowed him to work and study in Rome for two years. He has exhibited throughout the world and his work is to be found in many major public and private collections. |
