Sally HeywoodNew Paintings and Works on Paper ... 8 February - 16 March 2002This exhibition marks a return to the UK as Heywood's base and is her first London show for 3 years. In this recent work, Heywood's canvases create private dreamlike spaces, abstract yet not abstract, her obsession still the desire to extend the possibilities of the paint, pushing, and pulling skeynes of colour across the surface. The influence of coastal light and environment has lead to the introduction of new colours to her palette and an openness and airiness suggested by sweeping, rhythmical marks. The works on paper, in acrylic, are not studies upon which the canvases but more a summation of the process rather. They are the logical conclusions to the series, immediate and interdependent. Together it is the most consistent body of work yet seen, fascinating as ever, for the sculptural manipulation of oil paint. |
