Pierre Imhof based his two new series of paintings called Collateral and hd/lr on satellite imaging, arial photography, mapping and television coverage of war and conflict recorded from the air. The canvasses show abstract versions of towns and conurbations with viewfinders and target signs on top of certain shapes. Some spots of bright colour recall fireworks or explosions. Like most of the televised footage of Helmand Province or Iraq, the beauty and serenity of the works belie the horror and suffering at ground level resulting from so-called precision bombing and surgical air strikes.

Pierre Imhof was born in Fribourg, Switzerland, in 1956 and moved to London in 1979. He attended Middlesex University, London from 1983-1986 where he attained a B.A. in Fine Art. Imhof lives and works in London.
