Peter Griffin

About the artist...
Peter Griffin was born in 1947 in Wakefield, Yorkshire. He studied at the Royal College of Art and went on to win the Rome Scholarshipin Painting. His recent collaborations include working with the Pablo Neruda Foundation, Ortega Y Gasset Foundation and prize-winning playwright Ariel Dorfman.

He has shown widely throughout Europe and South America, including recently at the National Gallery of Argentina.

Griffin's paintings fuse abstract and figurative elements to represent man's never-ending attempt to make sense of life. He focusses particularly on issues of love, and the denial of love, in a personal and a wider cultural, political sense. Griffin's paintings are deeply compassionate and intimate. He explores not only the possibilities of painting, but also what it means to be human - and the concepts of freedom, justice and humanity.

"Griffin I see as a major artist…One cannot help thinking these paintings will make the world a better place"
Norbert Lynton - Modern Painters
