| Katarina Ivanišin
About the artist...
Ivanišin explores ideas related to her own experiences of
upbringing in Dubrovnik, an idyllic Mediterranean (social and physical)
landscape, as well as memories of social, economic and spiritual
destruction caused by the past communist regime and the recent violent
political history of war in the former Yugoslavia.
The conception of near and inevitable change is her particular
concern. Her work explores the collision between abstraction and
representation. Seen from a distance the works imply a geographical
experience, but the close up examination reveals the non-fixed structure,
the language of abstraction used to suggest a figurative space.
